Abstract
The rate of cesarean section has risen dramatically in almost all countries over the last 20 years
Clinical analysis was carried out retrospectively, based on the charts of 6,373 cases of cesarean section out of 17,821 deliveries from January, 1983 to December, 1992 at department of Obstetrjcs and Gynecology, Yonsei University, Wonju College
of
Medicine.
@ES The results were as follows.
@EN 1. Total delivery was 17,821.
2. Total cesarean section was 6,7373 and average cesarean section rate was 35.8%. The primary cesarean section rate was 25.3% and repeat cesarean section rate was 10.4%.
3. The rate of cesarean section has risen annually.
4. 78.4% of primary cesarean secton was done in the 20~29 year aged group. 87.6%of repeat cesarean section was done in 25~34 year aged group.
5. Average gestational weeks were 39.1 in primary cesarean section and 38.3 in repeat cesarean section.
6. In 1983, the indications for primary cesarean section were cephalopelvic disproportion (44.0%), malpresentation (20.9%), pregnancy induced hypertension with unfavorable cervix (9.4%), fetal distress (6.2%), In 1992, those were CPD (50.2%),
fetal
distress (23.1%), malpresentation (10.4%).
7. The greatest portion of newborn birth weight belonged to 3,010~3,500 gm group.
8. There were one Maternal deaths in 6,373 cesarean section. The cause was disseminated intravascular coagulation.
9. Perinatal mortality was 24.6 (pet 1,000). Most comnon cause of neonatal death was respiratory distress syndrome.
10. Male to female ratio in cesarean section was 1.18: 1.
